JACK'S PAK-IT & BLANDA FAMILY HISTORY:

Jack's Pak-It is an established meat market, deli, and grocery store owned and operated by the Blanda family in Beaumont and Lumberton, TX. Many people may recall their parents or grandparents talking about that unique Italian store where they loved to shop, and the customers always came first. Well, Jack's Pak-It is that place. It is a continuing tradition. "I get to work with my family, I love what I do, and I enjoy sharing my Italian heritage with customers," says owner Louis Blanda.

The owners are Louis and Lori Blanda and cousin, John Blanda. They operate the original, long standing Beaumont location. Other cousins and siblings who work in the store are Cathy Blanda Brittain, John's sister, and Geralyn Blanda Vine, Louis’s sister. Cathy manages the deli and prepared foods at the Beaumont location while Geralyn manages the deli and prepared foods at the new Lumberton location. Several of the next generation of cousins and children also work in the stores. Sam and Jake Blanda, sons of Louis and Lori Blanda, help in the day to day operations. Sam manages the Lumberton location, and Jake helps manage at both locations. John Blanda Jr., son of John Blanda, helps out at both stores as well. Robert Boehme, the godfather of John's daughter, does his part in completing many tasks including the preparation of the revered Jack's Pak-It homemade Italian sausage, and he is an integral part of our Lumberton operations. Joy Mason, whom the Blandas consider family, is another fixture in the Beaumont store since she is responsible for running the registers. Yes, this family tree is confusing, but this is typical for Italian families. Other employees: No direct relation but absolutely family as far as Jack's is concerned. In Lumberton, Jennifer Taylor
and Nicole Merrow are both hard workers with great talents they put to use cookin in the deli and/or running the register with a smile. In Beaumont, Micah Updike is one the great cooks and an aspiring chef serving up tasty dishes daily, and Garreth Howells is a great hand in both the market and deli as he assists in all the daily chores of the business. The whole Jack's Pak-It staff is honestly like family to the Blanda's making true to the definition of a family business!

The Blandas are Sicilian Italians with roots in the cities of Corleone and Bisacquino near the capital city of Sicily, Palermo. In the early 1900's, the Blanda's ancestors began migrating from Sicily, Italy to the United States. Much of the family ended up in Southeast Texas and in particular Orange, TX. Most of the Blanda family remains in the Southeast Texas area.

The Blanda family’s tradition of the grocery business started in 1917 when Grandma Blanda opened the first grocery store in her home in Orange, TX. The Blandas are well known for their Italian culture. It shows in many of the foods they offer as well as how customers are embraced and welcomed as extended family. The Blandas also appreciate the way the customers in Beaumont and surrounding areas have taken them in as extended family as well.

In the family tradition, each day when the doors open for business, an owner is on site to welcome the customer.

“A Beaumont Tradition in Service” is the store’s motto and the Jack's Pak-It staff enjoys meeting their customers and providing personal service. Owner John Blanda says, "We want every customer to feel welcome and leave our store completely satisfied."

On any morning the "coffee crew" gathers to share stories and good humor before heading off to work.
